Background: The project conducted in Mukwano Health Care in Kadama Town council addressed the limited use of SRH among adolescent girls due to the limited information or misinformation and referrals for family planning use. This came from the social stigma surrounding family planning use causing adolescents to overestimate the unpleasantness and visibility of the uptake process. Adolescents also overweighed the health risks associated with using family planning while under-weighing the health risks associated with unplanned pregnancies.
About the project: The “Refer-a-Friend” innovation for reproductive health services (SRH) was where a satisfied user (client) was given two cards at the end of the services one for herself and another. They would then take to the friend and invite her to come to the facility (Mukwano HCC-Annex) and access SRH information and services. The project was done through 10 community outreaches, daily health facility consultations where adolescents would meet with the health workers and provision of family planning services.
Results: From 1st November 2021 to 30th April 2022, there were more females who accessed SRHR services and counseling than males that is 410 females and 242 males with the most served age group being 16-19 years followed by 20-25 years.
