Background
In Zimbabwe, young women and men continue to suffer the consequences of not having sufficient access to SRH services such as HIV testing and counseling, family planning and contraceptives and SRHR information. Youth-friendly service provision is yet to be guaranteed in all health facilities. Moreover, youth remain vulnerable to sexual abuse and violence either on the basis of their gender or lack of self-efficacy (Female Students Network Trust, 2015).
About the project
The project worked towards ensuring that students enrolled at VTCs develop greater demand for and access to quality youth-friendly SRH services in order to enjoy their sexual and reproductive health rights. Activities conducted were 18 YFSP sessions among 12 health care staff, 30 peer educators (SRHR champions) and 17 community leaders, development of an SRHR directory and establishment of CSE/YFS youth network.
Results
59 service providers, community leaders and SRHR Champions more knowledgeable in Youth Friendly Service Provision, increased utilization of family planning services and maternal health services among adolescent girls and young women at Seke North Clinic, improved data management and usage within health facilities, inclusion of young people on the health centre committee, 3 partnerships established to expand and provide YFS and CSE to other areas, improved monitoring of health services by the Ministry of Health and Child Care (MoHCC) and Zimbabwe National Family Planning Council (ZNFPC).
Year: 2018/2019
