Background
For the majority of the population in South Sudan, access to and utilization of health care, particularly sexual and reproductive and rights (SRHR) service, has been inadequate or severely hindered mostly because of natural and man-made disasters. In most cases these services have either been absent or insufficient. This is a situation that has contributed to the appalling sexual and reproductive health and rights statistics in the country
About the project
The project’s goal was to increase the number of women of reproductive age (15-49) years accessing quality healthcare services at the Maternal and Child Health Clinic at Juba Teaching Hospital. The team conducted 101 health education sessions among WRA, conducted 5 health education sessions on SRHR among 40 men (15-65) years, measured the number of male partners who accompanied their wives to access SRHR services, educated health care providers about SRHR services, conducted 10 radio talk shows on FAC, FP, PMTCT, Immunization and SGBV, distributed FP and safe delivery commodities to WRA based on their needs, measured the number of women accessing ANC, Family Planning, PMTCT, Immunization and SGBV services, Distributed about more than 10,000 ANC cards and 9,000 growth monitoring cards for under 5 children.
Results
14034 WRA were using ANC, 3016 were accessing FP, 46 were using SGBV services, 3016 WRA received FP services while more than 5000 WRA received clean delivery kits (Mama Kits), 2845 male partners accompanied their wives to access SRHR services.
