Background
Despite the efforts of the ministry of health to provide youth friendly services, there continues to be a big gap in implementation due to limited capacity and inadequate information among the beneficiaries about the right to friendly services. This leads to limited use of contraceptives and family planning services among young people causing early and unplanned pregnancies, HIV/STI prevalence.
About the project
The project aimed at enabling young people in and out of school utilize SRHR services provided for at Kikonda Health Centre iii through information acquisition and direct RH service provision. 8 inception meetings were conducted among 31 officials, health workers and school teachers. 6 health workers were supported with on job training to provide youth friendly services. 16 SRHR outreaches were conducted among 980 school children in 8 schools. 522 youth were reached through 4 SRHR and services campaigns in 3 villages. 8 senior women and men teachers were provided with SRH information to support school children. An inclusive advocacy network of 80 Youth Living with HIV, People with disabilities, young mothers and other youth was formed.
Results
8 health clubs of 50 school children were formed in 8 schools to provide SRH information. Kikonda health centre allocated a two- hour Friday sessions to provide age appropriate SRH information and services to adolescents. RH services have been integrated into the Kyankwanzi district immunization community campaigns. There is increased uptake of family planning services at Kikonda health centre.
