Background
There is limited knowledge Sexual Reproductive Health Rights (SRHR) and uptake of SRH Services among People living with HIV/AIDs (PLHIV) in Mynamar. This is due to poor linkage and referral systems which compromise the utilization of services such as family planning and STI management among PLHIV especially the women.
About the project
The project was implemented through Pyi Gyi Khin organization. It set out to improve quality of life among women living with HIV of reproductive age. The team prepared a training curriculum, trained counselors to strengthen referral services, conducted advocacy meetings among stakeholders, conducted coaching sessions with counselors and volunteers, worked with trained counselors to conduct awareness sessions among women with HIV and measured the functionality of referral services for family planning and STI management. The team performed a pre-test and post-test assessment to measure change.
Results
More women with HIV became aware of at least 3 modern methods of contraceptives from 58% to 91%. Women with knowledge of the emergency control pill increased from 29% to 54%, increased awareness of STIs from 66% to 84% and 43% to 67% for those who know at least two or more symptoms. Clients agreeing to share SRH knowledge with adolescents increased from 93% to 96%. Clients knowing where to get SRHR services increased from 34% to 71%.
