Background
In Liberia, provision of public SHRH services young people are limited to urban and peri-urban communities. More over these facilities are not largely accessed by women and girls because of the lack of information on the different services. The utilization of other services such as counseling and legal advice for SGBV survivors is also limited because of similar reasons and the limited confidentiality among healthcare service provider coupled with stigma and discrimination.
About the project
The Change Project therefore aimed at addressing knowledge gap regarding sexual reproductive health rights and gender-based violence in three communities (Congo Town, 72nd, and Barnesville). The team conducted an SRHR awareness meeting among 40 women, held 2 dialogues among 47 participants on SRHR and GBV issues, organized 3 engagement meetings among 86 females, 41 male participants and leaders on SGBV response and follow up on cases, held one SRHR and SGBV awareness session among 166 leaders and community members.
Results
353 community members and leaders are more aware of SRHR & GBV, establishment of a structured group 80 members through which SRHR and SGBV services information is passed and income generating projects such arts and crafts making and collection of monthly dues are conducted. 31 members formed a support group through which they pass on SRHR and SGBV information and make liquid soap. More SGBV are reported and documented. There is increased open discussions among duty bearers and CSOs on abortion for victims of SGBV.
