Background
Mansa, one of the districts in Luapula Province of Zambia faces a challenge of providing Youth Friendly Sexual and Reproductive Health Services. The district has inadequate health facilities compared to the population served hence Youth Friendly Health Services are carried out on a small scale.
About the project
The project therefore set out to increase utilization of available SRH information and services at Mansa Central Clinic by Mansa College Students. The specific objectives were to increase awareness on SRHR among youths (15-24years) at Mansa College of Education in Mansa District, to increase the number of college students accessing youth friendly SRHR at Mansa Central Clinic and to update knowledge of staff on SRHR at Mansa Central Clinic.
Results
The Clinic provided space and a focal person for the youth friendly health services corner. 21 Mansa Central Clinic staff, 13 Mansa DHMT members and youth club members were oriented on ASRHR. A youth club was formed at the Mansa college. Participatory monthly SRHR sensitizations through drama performances, songs and dances as well as sports were conducted with the college and clinic youth clubs. The Central Clinic youth friendly corner and Mansa College of Education information room were supplied with logistics (IEC Materials, Laboratory supplies Contraceptives and other drugs) through routine ordering and lobbying from partners such as UNFPA, FHI through ZPCT, Luapula Foundation and HCP.
