Background
In Mynamar, the level of knowledge about human sexuality and reproductive health among adolescents is low and this partly accounts for the birth rate of 36 live births per 1,000 among adolescents (Myanmar Demographic Health Survey (2015-2016). This is partly caused by poor teaching methods due to lack of proper training among teachers to pass on SRHR knowledge to school going adolescents.
About the project
The project aimed at improving SRHR education, as part of the LSE curriculum, in selected schools in Myanmar. The objectives were to improve the knowledge and skills of LSE-teachers with regards to SRHR through refresher trainings, improve the SRHR knowledge of Grade-6 and above students in selected schools and enhance teachers’ skills in communicating information on sexual issues especially sexual communication, awareness about sexual health barriers and reproductive health knowledge for adolescents to the students. Activities concluded advocacy, baseline and end-line assessments, developing and delivering training package to LSE teachers and doing practical sessions.
