Background: The project was conducted in Mazoe district, which is a farming and mining community in Mashonaland Central Province and largely a hot spot with a high rise in commercial sex work. Mashonaland Central is still facing a protracted fight against HIV/AIDS, Sexually Transmitted Infections (STI) and Child Marriages.
About the project: The project worked towards increasing access to accurate SRHR information among young people in Mazoe District. Specifically, the project led to an increase in SRHR knowledge, increase access to SRHR services provided by clinics in the farming communities and increased capacity of young people to make informed decisions on their SRHR. The project conducted SRHR awareness sessions, a forum for theatre through radio and music, training in reusable pads for 12 young women, and a girls’ soccer tournament. The project reached at least 100 girls and 90 young males.
Results: The project led to increased knowledge of accurate SRHR information, and increased access to SRHR and more community collaborations to address SRHR and youth economic empowerment.
